Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has been devising a strategy over recent days to prevent his fellow Republicans from allying with Democrats in order to obstruct legislation that calls for the Department of Justice to disclose the Epstein files.

Johnson is acutely aware that any bill regarding the Epstein files, once it emerges from the House, would likely garner overwhelming support in the Senate, potentially enough to override a Trump veto. Thus, the House serves as Trump’s final bastion to block these disclosures.

Consequently, the Speaker is adamantly refusing to schedule a vote.

The leadership within the House Republican camp has opted to freeze the legislative process entirely, putting the House on pause for a staggering six weeks.

Meredith Lee Hill from Politico shared on X:

The House Rules Committee isn’t reconvening tonight, and it seems they won’t be doing so at all this week either, according to sources. Scalise has confirmed that it’s “not likely” for the Rules to return—meaning the House will adjourn without addressing immigration and several other pressing bills.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is demanding clarity on the rationale behind the Republicans’ decision to halt the House for six weeks:

So let me get this straight: Republicans have brought Congress to a standstill and are contemplating adjourning the entire House for six weeks to avoid disclosing information about Epstein? What is truly happening here?

The reality is that Republicans, in conjunction with the White House, are effectively stalling any potential moves to release the Epstein files, hoping that the scandal will fade away over the next month and a half.

House Republican leaders are so apprehensive about the ramifications of these files being made public that they are willing to shut down the House before the traditionally active August recess, which usually sees members scrambling to finalize their agendas before a month-long break, in hopes of quelling the momentum surrounding the files’ release.

If Trump has nothing to conceal, why are House Republicans resorting to such extreme measures to shield him?

AOC raises a valid point. There’s clearly something amiss. Republicans appear to be engaged in a cover-up of abuse and assault against women and girls under the directive of Donald Trump.
