Rachel Bloom and her husband, Dan Gregor, have teamed up to create a new comedy pilot for ABC titled “Do You Want Kids?” The show, which they co-wrote and executive produce, explores the different paths a couple’s life can take based on the decision to have children or not. Bloom will also star in the pilot as the wife in the central couple.
Fans of Bloom will recognize her from her previous work as the creator and star of the popular musical romantic comedy series “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” which aired on the CW from 2015 to 2019. She has received accolades for her performance on the show, including a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award for best comedy actress, as well as an Emmy for outstanding music and lyrics. Bloom’s comedic talents have also been showcased in her Netflix comedy special “Death, Let Me Do My Special” and in various other projects such as “Julia,” “Reboot,” and the Netflix films “Your Place or Mine” and “The School for Good and Evil.”
Dan Gregor, Bloom’s husband and writing partner, has also had a successful career in the entertainment industry. He previously worked as a writer and producer on “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and co-wrote the film “The Naked Gun.” Gregor’s other credits include writing for shows like “How I Met Your Mother” and “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers,” as well as the film “Most Likely to Murder.”
The pilot for “Do You Want Kids?” is being executive produced by Bloom and Gregor, along with Steve Levitan and Danielle Stokdyk of Levitan Productions. Levitan, known for his work as the creator of “Reboot,” brings his expertise to the project as an executive producer. The studio behind the pilot is 20th Television.
