Tom Hanks is bidding farewell to the late Apollo 13 astronaut James Lovell… whom Tom famously portrayed on the big screen.
In the 1995 film “Apollo 13,” Tom played Lovell, who passed away at the age of 97 on Thursday.
Tom is commemorating Lovell in a touching post on social media, expressing, “There are people who dare, who dream, and who lead others to places we would not go on our own. Jim Lovell, who for a long while had ventured farther into space and for longer than any other person on our planet, was that kind of guy.”
Hanks continues, “His numerous journeys around Earth and near the moon were not motivated by wealth or fame, but by the challenges that fuel the essence of being alive – and who better than Jim Lovell to undertake those voyages.”
Tom concludes his tribute by saying, “On this night of a full moon, he passes on – to the heavens, to the cosmos, to the stars. Godspeed on your next voyage, Jim Lovell.”
