The CDC headquarters in Atlanta was the scene of a tragic shooting incident on Friday, where a gunman opened fire on the premises. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White, reportedly believed that the COVID-19 vaccine had made him ill, leading him to target the CDC building.

While it remains unclear whether White was actually suffering from any illness, law enforcement officials are investigating the possibility that he was influenced by the vaccine theory. Reports suggest that White allegedly blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for his health issues, prompting his violent actions.

The New York Times also reported on the incident, crediting officials with the theory that the shooter’s grievances were related to the COVID-19 vaccine. The shooting took place at a CVS near Emory University, where White fired rounds in the direction of the CDC building.

Tragically, a DeKalb County Police Department officer named David Rose lost his life while responding to the incident. Rose, a father of two with another child on the way, succumbed to injuries sustained during the confrontation. CDC Director Susan Monarez paid tribute to the fallen officer on social media, expressing gratitude to the responding officers for their swift action.

The CDC emphasized the importance of safety and well-being following the shooting, stating that their priority is to coordinate with federal, state, and local authorities to thoroughly investigate the shooter and the tragic events that unfolded. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement and the need for continued vigilance in ensuring public safety.
