Recently, the Chicago police have issued a warning regarding a series of alarming incidents involving armed robbers targeting construction sites. These thieves have been stealing valuable tools from work vans using intimidation and force. Now, one suspect has been arrested and is currently on probation related to a previous firearm offense.

On the morning of September 3, a contractor, aged 24, was engaged in HVAC maintenance work on the rooftop of a building located in the 1500 block of West Carroll. He witnessed first-hand the very crime that law enforcement had been alerting workers to watch for.

As he worked, a black Honda Accord parked near his van, and a man clad in a mask exited the vehicle wielding a pry bar. In a quick response, the contractor activated the alarm on his van, which startled the potential thief, prompting a hasty retreat back to the car.

However, just moments later, the same Honda returned. This time, the masked man attempted to saw through the lock on the passenger door of the van while another accomplice maintained a lookout. The contractor hurried down from the roof and spotted one robber rifling through the van while the other stood vigil outside.
