A courageous 14-year-old girl, who moved countless hearts with her honest portrayal of her extended fight against cancer, has sadly passed away, as announced by her grieving family on social media.
Zuza Beine, who amassed millions of followers while detailing her experiences with leukemia over recent years on Instagram and TikTok, passed away on Monday morning.
“She battled relentless cancer for 11 of her 14 years, yet embraced life with gratitude and fullness that many may never experience. Her spirit transformed our lives eternally, and her passing will too,” her family shared alongside an image of the joyful teenager.
“More than anything, her deepest desire was to be a typical, healthy child. Yet her journey was made beautiful by her ability to confront the most difficult challenges, such as her illness, and continue to live life to the fullest,” they continued.
Hailing from Wisconsin, Zuza was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a form of blood cancer originating from the bone marrow, when she was just 3 years old, as described in her posts.
Despite seemingly overcoming cancer five times, it continuously returned.
Her journey included over a decade of frequently painful treatments, which involved three bone marrow transplants and numerous chemotherapy sessions.
Her willingness to share her fight on social media earned her millions of followers, often showcasing her raw moments of pain.
In the days preceding her passing, Zuza opened up about feeling particularly unwell after a brief hospital visit.
“Recently, I have been struggling both physically and mentally. The pain has become unbearable, and I rely on pain medication because my body is in excruciating discomfort,” she expressed.
Her family believes her resilient spirit was perfectly summed up in her final message, where she reflected on what she was thankful for.
“Being diagnosed with cancer has instilled in me a profound appreciation for the simple, everyday moments that many take for granted,” she wrote.
