Acclaimed creator Vince Gilligan has solidified his position in the industry by renewing his overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. This renewal is set for four years, during which Gilligan will continue to develop and produce scripted series under his High Bridge production banner, a partnership he has maintained for 20 remarkable years.
Reflecting on his journey, Gilligan noted, “Every three or four years I think it’s time to explore new horizons… but then I remind myself how fortunate I am at Sony Pictures Television. I have immense respect for Katherine, Ravi, and the entire team there. They are fantastic partners who consistently look after ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Better Call Saul,’ and now ‘Pluribus.’ It makes me proud (and a touch melancholic) to work for one of Hollywood’s last independent studios—a rarity I believe the industry could greatly benefit from.”
Gilligan is best known for creating the iconic series “Breaking Bad,” produced by Sony TV. The show ran for five critically-acclaimed seasons on AMC and has earned its place as one of the finest series of the 21st century. Following its success, he developed the spinoff “Better Call Saul,” which delves into the life of Saul Goodman, portrayed by Bob Odenkirk, both before and after the events of “Breaking Bad.” He also collaborated with Sony on the follow-up film “El Camino,” which wrapped up Jesse Pinkman’s story, played by Aaron Paul.
“Vince Gilligan is not only a legend in our field, but he is also an exceptional individual who elevates and champions others,” stated Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. “His humility and genius are incredibly rare, and we are thrilled to extend our remarkable partnership with him.”
Gilligan’s forthcoming project is the Apple TV+ series “Pluribus,” which has already been renewed for two seasons. The series stars Rhea Seehorn from “Better Call Saul,” and will premiere with its first two episodes on November 7, with new episodes released weekly until December 26.
“Pluribus” is characterized as a “genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness.” The cast also features Karolina Wydra and Carlos-Manuel Vesga, with guest appearances by Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte.
Gilligan is represented by CAA and Del Shaw Moonves. “Pluribus” is produced by Sony Pictures Television and is executive produced by Gilligan alongside Gordon Smith, Alison Tatlock, Diane Mercer, Allyce Ozarski, and Jeff Frost, with Jenn Carroll and Trina Siopy serving as co-executive producers.
