Denver and Arvada Parks Receive $15.7 Million in Federal Grant Money

Denver’s La Alma-Lincoln Park and Arvada’s Gold Strike Park have been awarded a total of $15.7 million in federal grant money, as announced on Thursday.

The Department of the Interior has allocated the funds from its Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Grants Program, which is part of a larger $254 million initiative supporting 54 projects aimed at enhancing local parks in underserved communities nationwide. The program falls under the Land and Water Conservation Fund and is overseen by the National Park Service.

La Alma-Lincoln Park will receive $8.4 million for various improvements, including a new exercise and cultural story loop, skate park, playground expansion, roller skate loop, plaza, picnic grove, pollinator garden, restored amphitheater, and enhancements to sports courts and fields. The park holds historical significance in Colorado’s Chicano movement.

Gold Strike Park in Arvada, known as the site of Colorado’s first gold discovery, will benefit from $7.3 million to develop a nature playground, water-play area, bouldering feature, trails, creek crossings, pedestrian bridge, event lawn, picnic area, pavilion, and pollinator garden.
