The world is constantly changing, and it can be overwhelming to keep up with the pace of these changes. How do we navigate this ever-evolving landscape without feeling paralyzed by it? A group of talented artists, including dancers, choreographers, directors, composers, and more, have come together to explore this question through movement in a groundbreaking five-part series.

Led by Jacob Jonas of Jacob Jonas The Company, the project is part of Films.Dance, a platform dedicated to making dance accessible and exploring its connections with music, fashion, and film. Each installment of the series delves into the theme of beginning again, offering a fresh perspective on the challenges and uncertainties of our world.

The first film in the series, “Moncalvo,” was born out of a period of profound grief and anxiety for Jonas. Created during a time of personal struggle following a battle with stage 4 cancer, the film serves as a poignant exploration of healing and rediscovery. Shot in Moncalvo, Italy, the film captures the juxtaposition of tenderness and intensity, reflecting the complex process of overcoming trauma.

“Infinity,” another installment in the series, features dancers engaged in repetitive movements in a stark, nondescript space. The minimalist costumes and neutral tones highlight the burden and release of human experiences, offering a compelling study of the spine and the emotional weight we carry.

The final film in the collection, “Lotus,” takes viewers on a dizzying journey through rapid shifts in perspective. Inspired by the fluid movements of nature, the film evokes images of flowing water, flickering flames, and buzzing insects. Through these visual metaphors, Jonas invites viewers to contemplate the cyclical nature of life and the eternal dance of death and rebirth.

Overall, the series is a collaborative effort that brings together a diverse group of artists driven by curiosity and existential questions. Through their work, they challenge viewers to consider the role of control in our lives and the interconnectedness of all living things. As Jonas aptly puts it, “The question is the answer,” prompting us to reflect on our place in the universe and our relationship to the world around us.
