Exciting Crossover Episode Between “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” Confirmed

It was Rob McElhenney who first hinted at a long-awaited crossover between the hit shows “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” The anticipation reached a new level when McElhenney shared a photo on social media, confirming the collaboration. The crossover episode, directed by Randall Einhorn and written by Garrett Werner, is set to air on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 8:30 p.m. ET as the midseason premiere of “Abbott Elementary.”

In a teaser spot for the episode, McElhenney and “Abbott” star Quinta Brunson engage in playful banter about the long-awaited crossover. The actual storyline of the episode remains a mystery, adding to the excitement surrounding the event.

The crossover will feature the entire cast of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” including Charlie Day and Danny DeVito. Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, the executive producers of “Abbott Elementary,” confirmed that the episode will showcase the unique tones of both shows while delivering an entertaining storyline that fans of both series will enjoy.

“It was kind of a joke at first, that the two shows should cross over. On paper, it feels like they’d be a real tonal mishmash. But then Rob and Charlie came to our writers room and we hashed out some real broad stroke ideas,” Schumacker explained. The collaboration between the two shows was a result of Brunson’s initial idea after meeting McElhenney at an event, showcasing the creativity and camaraderie between the teams.

Part one of the crossover will air on “Abbott Elementary,” with the “Abbott” characters set to make an appearance on an episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” when the show returns. The excitement surrounding the crossover episode has been building, and fans can’t wait to see how the two worlds collide on screen.
