The tragic story of the Ohio couple who were brutally murdered in their home has shocked the nation. The family of Monique and Spencer Tepe spoke out about the alleged killer, Michael McKee, and the torment he inflicted on Monique during their short-lived marriage.

According to Monique’s brother, Rob Misleh, McKee was emotionally abusive towards Monique during their marriage, which lasted from 2015 to 2017 before they divorced. Misleh described the abuse as torment, stating that Monique had to get away from McKee. He emphasized that she was a strong person who was willing to do anything to escape the situation.

Monique, 37, eventually found love again and married Spencer Tepe in December 2020. Tragically, their happiness was cut short when McKee allegedly broke into their Columbus home in the middle of the night on December 30 and shot them dead in their bedroom. The couple’s two young children were unharmed in another room during the horrific incident.

McKee, 39, was arrested in Rockford, Illinois more than a week after the murders. Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant described the killings as a targeted attack and an act of domestic violence. Police believe they have found the murder weapon at McKee’s Illinois home, linking it to the homicides.

McKee appeared in court in Illinois but did not enter a plea. His assistant public defender indicated that he intends to plead not guilty. The Tepe family is seeking justice for Monique and Spencer, hoping that McKee will be held accountable for his actions. McKee is currently facing two counts of murder and is scheduled to appear in court in Winnebago County, Illinois, for an extradition hearing before being brought to Columbus for trial.
