Will Sharpe takes on the role of Mozart, while Paul Bettany portrays Salieri in the newly released teaser for the highly anticipated Sky limited series titled “Amadeus.” This series depicts the renowned competition between the two musical geniuses.
Adapted from Peter Shaffer’s acclaimed stage play by “Black Doves” creator Joe Barton, this five-episode series is set to debut on Sky and Now streaming in December. It delves into the dramatic rise and fall of one of history’s legendary composers.
According to the official synopsis, “When the 25-year-old Amadeus arrives in the vibrant atmosphere of 18th Century Vienna, he is no longer seen as a child prodigy and yearns for creative independence. His path converges with two significant figures: his devoted future wife, Constanze Weber, and the deeply religious court composer, Antonio Salieri.” The description continues, “As Amadeus’ talent flourishes despite his inner turmoil, a tarnished reputation, and skepticism from the traditional court, Salieri becomes increasingly disturbed by this seemingly divine gift. Amadeus poses a threat to everything Salieri values: his talent, his reputation, and even his faith. Salieri resolves to destroy him, leading their professional rivalry to morph into a haunting obsession that spans three decades, concluding with a murder confession and a desperate attempt to attach himself to Mozart’s legacy for eternity.”
