In an intriguing display of denial, the Trump administration continues to avert its gaze from the uncomfortable truths surrounding the ongoing conflict in Iran. The administration’s optimistic rhetoric suggests that gas prices will plummet and the war will conclude shortly, a narrative that feels more like a fairy tale than fact. It’s crucial for the American populace to hear from those who have firsthand experience in Middle Eastern conflicts, offering a sober evaluation of the situation.

Enter Pete Buttigieg, a veteran, former Secretary of Transportation, and possibly a future presidential candidate. On Sunday, he did not mince words about Trump’s approach to the Iran conflict.

“My concern isn’t for the soldiers out there; it’s with the political leadership, figures like Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump,” he stated.

“We’ve previously endured a war that was marketed to us under false premises. This current conflict, however, is being executed without any pretense whatsoever. The President has simply decided to act.”

“One stark constant since the days of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars is the identity of those who bear the brunt of the cost. We’ve now mourned the loss of 13 American service members. When preparing for war, the most dreadful thought is the potential for your family to receive that heart-wrenching knock at the door.”

“More than a dozen American families have endured that knock, and the President has made it clear there are likely to be more. While they pay the ultimate cost, every American feels the repercussions. Mortgage rates are already climbing due to this war.”

“Food prices are on the rise as well, and of course, we are also facing higher gas prices at the pump—all consequences of this conflict.”

Buttigieg didn’t hold back from addressing the broader implications of a war without justification. He also condemned Trump for what he perceives as the exploitation of fallen soldiers for profit.
