Amazon Prime Video has officially announced the production of a new series adaptation based on Patricia Cornwell’s popular Kay Scarpetta novels. The series, titled “Scarpetta,” has been greenlit for two seasons and will feature Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in the lead roles. The project is a collaboration between Blumhouse Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with Liz Sarnoff serving as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Joining Kidman and Curtis in the cast are Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Rosy McEwen, and Jake Cannavale. The series will follow Kay Scarpetta, played by Kidman, as she returns to Virginia to resume her role as Chief Medical Examiner. Along the way, she will navigate complex relationships, both personal and professional, including her sister Dorothy, portrayed by Curtis.

Expressing her excitement for the project, Curtis stated, “I have wanted to bring Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta to a screen for a while. I’m particularly excited that Nicole Kidman will finally bring her to life.” Kidman also shared her enthusiasm, saying, “I cannot wait to inhabit Kay Scarpetta and am so thankful to Patricia Cornwell for entrusting me with her.”

The series will also feature Bobby Cannavale as former detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, Rosy McEwen as Past Kay Scarpetta, Ariana DeBose as Lucy Farinelli-Watson, and Jake Cannavale as Past Pete Marino. Patricia Cornwell expressed her gratitude for the talented cast and production team, stating, “This will be great fun for all, and I’m grateful for the immense talent that the show is drawing.”
