Amazon Prime Video has officially announced the production of a new series adaptation based on Patricia Cornwell’s popular Kay Scarpetta novels. The series, titled “Scarpetta,” has been greenlit for two seasons and will feature Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in the lead roles. The project is a collaboration between Blumhouse Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with Liz Sarnoff serving as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
Joining Kidman and Curtis in the cast are Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Rosy McEwen, and Jake Cannavale. The series will follow Kay Scarpetta, played by Kidman, as she returns to Virginia to resume her role as Chief Medical Examiner. Along the way, she will navigate complex relationships, both personal and professional, including her sister Dorothy, portrayed by Curtis.
Expressing her excitement for the project, Curtis stated, “I have wanted to bring Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta to a screen for a while. With a total of 27 novels in the Kay Scarpetta series, starting with “Postmortem” in 1990 and the most recent release being “Unnatural Death” in 2023, the adaptation promises to bring the beloved character to life for fans around the world.
