Amazon has made the decision to terminate its contract with Progyny, a company that specializes in providing fertility benefits such as in vitro fertilization and egg freezing to employers. This move comes as a surprise to many, as Progyny has been a significant player in the fertility benefits space. According to a source familiar with the matter, Amazon employees will no longer have access to Progyny’s services starting on January 1, 2025.

Instead, Amazon will be transitioning to Maven as its new fertility benefits vendor. Maven is already a familiar partner to Amazon, as the company has been providing virtual “family-building care” services to Amazon employees. The decision to switch from Progyny to Maven is part of Amazon’s ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accessible benefits to its workforce.

The news of Amazon’s decision to end its agreement with Progyny was disclosed by Progyny to investors on Wednesday. While Progyny did not explicitly name Amazon as the client in question, the company revealed that the client represented a significant portion of its revenue in 2023. The client had 670,000 members and accounted for 13% of Progyny’s revenue last year. However, Progyny noted that the client only made up a smaller percentage of its profits.

This change in vendor for fertility benefits marks a significant shift for Amazon employees who have been utilizing Progyny’s services. It will be interesting to see how this transition impacts Amazon employees and their access to fertility benefits moving forward. As Amazon continues to prioritize the health and well-being of its workforce, the decision to switch to Maven as its new fertility benefits vendor is a strategic move that aims to provide employees with the best possible support for their family-building needs.
