Media Analysis: The Unyielding Negativity Towards Pete Hegseth
A recent study by the Media Research Center has unveiled a stark reality: major news networks have delivered a staggering 100% negative coverage of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth during the first 100 days of Trump’s administration. This phenomenon is more than mere media bias; it reflects a systematic weaponization of media against certain political figures.
From the outset of Trump’s nomination of Hegseth, it was evident that Democratic leaders and their media counterparts were eager to undermine him. The Senate confirmation hearings devolved into a spectacle, characterized more by theatrics than substantive discourse.
Despite the passage of time, the media’s relentless pursuit of Hegseth illustrates a continued obsession with discrediting him.

‘PERFECT SCORE!’: Pete Hegseth Challenges Legacy Media Following Study on Bias
In response to the findings from the Media Research Center, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth took aim at traditional media outlets, which revealed that his coverage was entirely negative across the three primary networks: ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News.
Hegseth shared a post on X, contrasting the nature of his coverage with that of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) adviser Elon Musk, who faced 89% and 96% negative coverage, respectively.
“If you’re wondering what we—and President Trump—are up against, here it is: 100% NEGATIVE coverage from the so-called ‘mainstream’ press in the first 100 days. A PERFECT SCORE,” Hegseth quipped. “(Come on @RobertKennedyJr & @elonmusk, you can do better!)”
During a cabinet meeting, Hegseth speculated on the reasons behind the overwhelmingly negative coverage, stating, “We’re controversial because we’re OVER the target!”
To his credit, Hegseth maintains a sense of humor in the face of adversity.
In case you wonder what we — and President Trump — are up against.
100% NEGATIVE coverage from so-call “mainstream” press in the first 100 days. PERFECT SCORE.

On a more positive note, under Hegseth’s leadership, military recruitment is reportedly on the rise—a factor that likely fuels the left’s determination to target him. The prospect of his success is not something they appear willing to accept.
