Anne Sofie Madsen’s fall show left a lasting impact on attendees, with emotions and power palpable throughout the venue. As a former protege of John Galliano at Christian Dior and Alexander McQueen, Madsen’s experience shone through in her latest collection, which was revived for fall 2025. The buzz surrounding the label is growing, with imitations popping up in other cities, but the true essence of Madsen’s work lies in its deep engagement with current events and personal experiences.
The fall collection, aptly named Ghostly Matters, delved into the idea of haunted futures and the power they hold over us. With live music from local band Wedding setting the tone, the show acted as a cleansing ritual, exorcising these ghosts through materialization. The opening look, a semi-sheer dress with visible pads at the hips, breasts, and shoulders, symbolized a form of soft armor, a protection against the haunting specters of the past.
Despite the delicate nature of some pieces, such as jewelry trapped under sheer layers, the collection as a whole was not wispy. Solid wool scarves were draped into fringed dresses, and the iconic duffle coat made a comeback, symbolizing rebellion and scholarship. Roses, both in fabric form and as a print created by artist Solas, added a touch of romance to the collection, reflecting Madsen’s childhood memories of Danish folklore and the mysterious elver creatures made of fog, dew, dust, and the scent of roses.
The finale, where all models appeared together, hinted at a princess posse rather than a girl army, further blurring the lines between power and prettiness. Madsen’s unique perspective and attention to detail make her collections stand out, offering a glimpse into a world where past, present, and future intertwine in a hauntingly beautiful dance.
