New Ultra Subscription Plan Launched by Anysphere for Cursor AI Tool

Anysphere has introduced a new subscription plan called Ultra for its popular AI coding tool, Cursor. The company made the announcement in a blog post on Monday. The Ultra plan, priced at $200 a month, offers users 20 times more usage on AI models from top providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and xAI compared to the existing $20-a-month Pro plan. Additionally, users on the Ultra plan will receive priority access to new features.

CEO of Anysphere, Michael Truell, mentioned in a blog post that the Ultra plan was made possible through multi-year partnerships with AI model providers. This move comes in the wake of similar actions by other AI model providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind who have rolled out higher-priced subscription plans ranging from $100 to $250 per month to cater to power users and offer increased usage.

The launch of the Ultra plan is expected to contribute to Anysphere’s growing revenue stream. Earlier this month, Anysphere revealed that Cursor had achieved $500 million in annualized recurring revenue and counts major companies such as Nvidia, Uber, and Adobe among its users. The company has been experiencing rapid growth, with Cursor’s ARR growing by $200 million since April.

However, amidst its success, Anysphere faces competition as AI model providers develop their own AI coding tools. OpenAI, for instance, has acquired Cursor’s competitor, Windsurf, while Anthropic is enhancing its in-house AI coding tool, Claude Code. This competitive landscape poses a challenge for Anysphere to maintain its growth trajectory.

To stay ahead in the race, Anysphere has started investing more in developing its own AI models to complement those from other providers. The introduction of the new “Tab” AI model in May is a testament to this strategic move, as it can suggest code changes across multiple files.

Despite the intensifying competition, Anysphere’s partnerships with AI model providers like Anthropic indicate a continued collaboration in the foreseeable future. However, as the battle for users heats up in the AI coding space, Anysphere will need to navigate through the evolving landscape to sustain its growth.
