Timing can be everything, as shown in this recent turn of events.

Abdi Daisane, a Somali-born day-care owner, has announced his candidacy for the state legislature in Minnesota amidst a billion-dollar fraud scandal that has rocked his community and business field.

Although not implicated in the alleged $9 billion fraud scandal, Daisane revealed his intention to run for office in the 2026 midterm elections after a previous defeat in 2024 against the Republican incumbent. He also faced an unsuccessful City Council bid in 2016.

Daisane established his day-care business, Blooming Kids Child Center, in St. Cloud in 2018 to address the need for early childhood education, making affordable childcare a focal point of his political campaigns.

Despite facing violations of state requirements related to his business, as reported by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Daisane remained committed to providing quality childcare services while acknowledging the need for improvement in staffing and support from the state.

While Daisane’s business faced criticisms and infractions, he emphasized the challenges in recruiting staff due to issues such as low pay and lack of benefits.

Despite the ongoing fraud scandal involving members of Minnesota’s Somali community, Daisane remains focused on his political aspirations, aiming to represent District 14A as a Democratic-Farmer-Labor candidate.

As the allegations of fraud continue to unfold, Daisane’s candidacy raises questions about the intersection of business, politics, and community integrity in the state of Minnesota.
