Bad Wolf, the production company behind popular shows like “Doctor Who” and “His Dark Materials,” has seen a significant increase in profits despite a drop in revenue for the year. According to the latest records filed at Companies House in the UK, post-tax profits have surged by 49%, rising from £7,072,610 in 2023 to £10,554,620 in 2024. Gross profits have also seen a notable increase, climbing from £11 million to £15 million over the same period.
Despite a decrease in revenue from £117 million to £94 million in 2024, Bad Wolf has managed to maintain strong profitability. The company’s projects in production have decreased in value from £96 million to £72 million, with upcoming shows like “The Other Bennet Sister,” a spin-off of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” in the pipeline.
The downward trend in production values is reflective of the broader UK production industry, impacting Bad Wolf’s revenues by market. UK revenue dropped from £91 million to £70 million, while US revenue saw a slight decline from £26 million to £24 million. Bad Wolf, led by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, was acquired by Sony Pictures Television in 2021 for a reported £60 million.
The company remains committed to Wales, where it is based, with a focus on utilizing Welsh crew and expanding the local crew base. The filings at Companies House highlight Bad Wolf’s contribution to the Welsh economy through spending on local employment and businesses.
Overall, Bad Wolf’s ability to increase profits amidst a challenging year demonstrates its resilience and strategic approach to production. With a strong portfolio of successful shows and a commitment to supporting the local economy, the company continues to thrive in the entertainment industry.
