Bob Costas, a beloved sportscaster with a career spanning nearly four decades at NBC, has found a way to continue his relationship with the network. Costas will be returning to NBC as the host of the pre-game show for the network’s new “Sunday Night Baseball,” which will be broadcast before games on both NBC and Peacock.

Costas, who left NBC in 2019 after stepping away from NBC Sports’ Olympics coverage, will make his debut as host on Thursday, March 26th at Dodger Stadium. The game will feature the Los Angeles Dodgers hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks and is the only primetime window for Major League Baseball on Opening Day.

NBCUniversal is reported to be paying $200 million per year for the new rights contract, showcasing the network’s commitment to bringing quality sports programming to viewers.

Since his departure from NBC, Costas has worked for MLB Network and Warner Bros. Discovery’s TNT Sports. During his time at NBC Sports, he served as a play-by-play voice and host for MLB coverage for 15 seasons. Costas also hosted “Later,” a late-night program that followed David Letterman’s “Late Night.”

In a statement, Costas expressed his gratitude for his time at NBC, calling it his true broadcasting home. He thanked Rick Cordella and Sam Flood for inviting him back in an emeritus role to conclude his career where so many memorable moments took place.

While Costas has been working for NBC in a less prominent capacity in recent years, narrating opening teases for Tuesday-night basketball coverage, he is expected to continue contributing to NBA coverage as the season progresses.
