Chilling new police bodycam footage has captured the heartbreaking reaction of former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn after his wife, Ashley, was found dead in their home. The incident took place in Tipp City, Ohio, where officers discovered Ashley, a mother of two, with gunshot wounds on February 16.
In the video, officers can be heard describing the scene to Caleb, who has since been charged with his wife’s murder. The footage, obtained by WKEF-TV, shows Caleb’s traumatized reaction upon learning about his wife’s death. He is heard asking, “Is she gone, sir, is…Oh, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.”
The officers on the scene confirmed that it was a homicide, with one describing the gruesome details of the crime scene. They found gun casings on the floor and a gunshot wound to Ashley’s head as she lay in bed. Despite the tragic circumstances, Caleb and his children were unharmed.
During the investigation, officers asked Caleb about any weapons in the house. He mentioned owning a shotgun, a 22, a pellet gun, and a handgun in his truck’s glovebox. The police also searched the garage for any evidence related to the crime but found no traces of blood.
In the bodycam footage released by Tipp City police, Caleb can be seen wailing and vomiting in response to the tragic events. He also called his mother to inform her about Ashley’s death.
Caleb initially called 911 to report that an intruder had broken into their home and shot his wife. However, officials later accused him of staging the scene to mislead them, leading to a delay in the investigation.
According to court documents, Caleb allegedly used a 9mm handgun to fatally shoot Ashley, who was known as both a teacher and a volleyball coach. Despite his previous admiration for his wife during his time on “American Idol,” Caleb has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.
In addition to the murder charge, Caleb faces charges of assault and tampering with evidence. His preliminary hearing, initially scheduled for February 26, has been postponed to March 26. He is currently held at the Miami County Jail in Ohio on a $2 million bond.
