On this picturesque Sunday morning in late summer Rio de Janeiro, the stifling heat has finally surrendered to more bearable temperatures.
At the iconic Copacabana Beach, an unending stream of Brazilian patriots gathers for a peaceful demonstration, advocating for the release of political prisoners—many of whom remain behind bars without trial in the aftermath of the January 8, 2023 riots.

The socialist administration under Lula da Silva seems to have borrowed a page from the U.S. playbook regarding the January 6 insurrection, keeping law-abiding citizens imprisoned for extended periods.

As Lula’s popularity plummets faster than a lead balloon, citizens are mobilizing to demonstrate their strength and urge the unpopular government and ineffectual Congress to grant amnesty to those who lack a voice.

This peaceful protest, organized by former president Jair Bolsonaro and other conservative leaders, is strategically held on a Sunday—presumably because the conservative working class, unlike their leftist counterparts often funded by foreign interests, can’t afford to take weekdays off for demonstrations.

Predictably, leftist factions and the mainstream media attempt to downplay the event’s significance, sharing images from the early morning hours to suggest a lack of attendance. However, the sheer scale of the gathering tells a different story.
