Pi Day is upon us once again, and this year, the researchers at StorageReview have a remarkable achievement to celebrate. They have calculated the mathematical constant π (pi) to an astonishing 314 trillion digits, setting a new world record in the process.

To put this number into perspective, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory states that only 37 decimal places of Ď€ are needed to calculate the circumference of the observable Universe to within the width of a hydrogen atom. Yet, StorageReview’s calculation of 314 trillion digits goes far beyond this level of precision.

In a blog post from December 2025, StorageReview lab director Kevin O’Brien proudly announced the record-breaking achievement. He highlighted not only the sheer magnitude of the calculation but also the exceptional performance, power efficiency, and reliability of their system. Unlike previous attempts that relied on massive cloud computing resources, StorageReview’s calculation was carried out on a single Dell PowerEdge R7725 server.

The system, equipped with dual AMD EPYC processors and 40 high-capacity NVMe solid-state drives, ran the specialized number-crunching software y-cruncher continuously for approximately 110 days to complete the calculation. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing race to best the previous π record using y-cruncher, a competition that has been ongoing for more than 15 years.

Efforts in recent years have focused on surpassing previous records and pushing the boundaries of computing capabilities. StorageReview’s latest achievement brings a sense of symmetry to the competition, emphasizing efficiency in data management rather than raw computing power.

The team’s approach to storage configuration, with NVMe drives connected directly to the processors via high-speed PCIe lanes, minimized bottlenecks and reduced power consumption compared to previous record attempts. This emphasis on efficiency sets a new benchmark for future Ď€ calculations.

As the race to break the Ď€ record continues, StorageReview’s achievement serves as a challenge to others in the field. O’Brien’s invitation for competitors to surpass their record while maintaining efficiency and reliability sets a high standard for future attempts.

In a world where technological advancements are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible, StorageReview’s record-breaking calculation of Ď€ stands as a testament to the power of innovation and efficiency in data management. As we look towards the future, it will be exciting to see how this achievement inspires further developments in the field of high-precision mathematical calculations. The Importance of Mental Health in Today’s Society

In recent years, mental health has become an increasingly important topic of discussion in society. With the rise of stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders, it is crucial that we address these issues and work towards creating a society that prioritizes mental well-being.

One of the main reasons why mental health is so important is because it affects every aspect of our lives. Our mental health impacts our relationships, our work performance, our physical health, and our overall quality of life. When we neglect our mental health, we are more likely to experience a range of negative consequences, including decreased productivity, strained relationships, and even physical health problems.

Furthermore, mental health disorders are incredibly common. According to the World Health Organization, depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent mental health issues. Despite the high prevalence of these disorders, there is still a significant stigma surrounding mental health, which can prevent people from seeking help when they need it.

Another reason why mental health is so important is because it is closely linked to physical health. Research has shown that individuals with mental health disorders are at a higher risk of developing chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. By prioritizing mental health, we can not only improve our mental well-being but also reduce our risk of developing physical health problems.

In addition to the individual benefits of prioritizing mental health, there are also societal benefits. When individuals are mentally healthy, they are more likely to be productive members of society, leading to a stronger economy and a more cohesive community. By investing in mental health resources and support systems, we can create a society that is more compassionate, understanding, and resilient.

Overall, the importance of mental health in today’s society cannot be overstated. By prioritizing mental well-being, we can improve our relationships, our work performance, our physical health, and our overall quality of life. It is crucial that we break the stigma surrounding mental health and work towards creating a society that values and supports mental well-being for all.
