Caitlyn Jenner Responds to the Tragic Death of 29-Year-Old Friend and Manager Sophia Hutchins
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Caitlyn Jenner has spoken out following the untimely death of her friend and manager, Sophia Hutchins, a fellow transgender advocate. Hutchins tragically lost her life in a high-speed ATV accident near Jenner’s residence on Wednesday, plummeting 350 feet down a cliff.
The Daily Mail reported on Jenner’s first public appearance since the incident, where she appeared visibly affected by the loss. Hours after the accident, Jenner, 75, was spotted in Malibu, reflecting the grief she is currently navigating as she mourns Hutchins.
Hutchins, who had openly identified as transgender, once cited Jenner as her source of inspiration for coming out during her college years in 2016. In the aftermath of the accident, Jenner revealed exclusively to Daily Mail that she is experiencing ‘tough times’ in the wake of Hutchins’ death.
Wearing dark sunglasses and casual attire, Jenner attempted to maintain a semblance of normalcy, waving to photographers as she returned to her Malibu mansion valued at $3.5 million. Despite her efforts to project strength, she later expressed a desire to refrain from discussing the tragedy further.
Hutchins had moved in with Jenner in 2017, and their bond had garnered speculation over the years regarding its nature. However, Hutchins clarified in a 2019 interview with The New York Times that their relationship was akin to that of a parent and child. “Caitlyn is a parent to me. I have said that a million times. It is a parental, familial relationship,” she affirmed.
The Daily Mail also highlighted a somber coincidence: this tragedy unfolds nearly nine years after Jenner was involved in another fatal incident—a car crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu that resulted in the death of Kim Howe, 70. Although Jenner was not charged, investigations indicated she was driving too fast, leading to civil lawsuits that were ultimately settled out of court.
