In a disturbing and tragic case that has shocked the nation, a mother and father have been found guilty of the brutal decapitation of their two children in their home in Lancaster, California. Maurice Jewel Taylor Sr. and Natalie Sumiko Brothwell were convicted of murdering their 13-year-old daughter, Maliaka, and 12-year-old son, Maurice Jr., in November 2020.

Following the heinous act, the parents forced their two younger sons, ages 8 and 9, to witness the gruesome scene of their older siblings’ headless bodies before locking them in their bedrooms without food or water for several days. This unimaginable horror inflicted upon the innocent children has left a family shattered and scarred forever.

District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman described the crime as a monstrous act of cruelty that has had a devastating impact on the entire family. The senseless murders of Maliaka and Maurice Jr. have left their young brothers to endure unspeakable trauma that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

The bodies of the two slain children, along with their surviving brothers, were only discovered after firefighters responded to a gas leak at the family’s home on December 3. The gruesome reality of what had transpired within the walls of the house sent shockwaves through the community and beyond.

Taylor Sr. and Brothwell have been convicted on two felony counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, as well as two felony counts of child abuse. They are scheduled to be sentenced on January 13, facing the full weight of justice for their unspeakable actions.
