Chelsea’s manager Liam Rosenior is reportedly on the verge of being sacked due to his underwhelming performance at Stamford Bridge. The club’s hierarchy is concerned about the slow progress in fixing the issues at the club under his leadership.
According to a report by Sky Sports Switzerland, Rosenior has failed to impress decision-makers at Chelsea and is already facing the possibility of being sacked. The Englishman took over in January after Enzo Maresca’s departure on New Year’s Day.
Despite a promising start with seven wins in his first nine matches, Rosenior has recently suffered consecutive defeats against PSG in the UEFA Champions League and Newcastle United in the Premier League. In total, he has won 10 out of 17 matches and lost 5, including three defeats against Arsenal. The team has only managed three clean sheets under his management, raising concerns about the defensive performance.
The recent defensive mistakes, notably in the PSG game where Rosenior chose Filip Jorgensen over Robert Sanchez, have cost Chelsea crucial points this season. A goalkeeper error led to a goal when the match was level at 2-2, eventually resulting in a 5-2 defeat.
The club’s decision-makers are now exploring potential replacements if the situation does not improve soon. While no specific names have been mentioned, Cesc Fabregas, Filipe Luis, and Andoni Iraola were linked to the job in January.
Chelsea hero Jason Cundy has expressed his preference for Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner as the ideal candidate to replace Rosenior. Cundy highlighted Glasner’s Premier League experience and success at Crystal Palace, making him a suitable choice for Chelsea. Glasner will be a free agent in the summer as he is not renewing his contract with Crystal Palace, with Manchester United also reportedly interested in him.
As the speculation around Rosenior’s future intensifies, Chelsea fans and stakeholders eagerly await any official announcement regarding the managerial position at the club. The pressure is on Rosenior to turn things around quickly if he wishes to secure his position at Stamford Bridge.
