Chicago Woman Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Boyfriend, Dancing in Handcuffs

A Chicago woman, Whitney Wilcox, has been re-arrested nearly a year after the death of her boyfriend, Jeremy Rodgers, for allegedly stabbing him to death. The incident took place in February, and Wilcox was initially arrested but released without being charged. However, new DNA evidence has led to her being charged with first-degree murder, according to reports from The Chicago Sun-Times.

Whitney Wilcox, 40, was re-arrested on Dec. 2 for the murder of her boyfriend Jeremy Rodgers, 46, in February. Chicago Police Department

During her recent arrest, Wilcox allegedly asked her Google device to play music and danced in handcuffs while waiting for the police to take her in for questioning. The court records obtained by the publication reveal this bizarre behavior.

The incident occurred when Wilcox and Rodgers were arguing in their West Ridge neighborhood apartment. Wilcox called 911 to report that Rodgers had been stabbed but claimed she didn’t know who did it. When the police arrived, they found Rodgers bleeding on the bathroom floor while Wilcox appeared distressed but without any blood on her.

Wilcox initially claimed self-defense, stating that she stabbed Rodgers during a fight. However, Rodgers reportedly identified her as the attacker before he passed away from his injuries at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Wilcox and Rodgers had been arguing in the early morning of Feb. 26 at their West Ridge neighborhood apartment when she called 911 and reported that Rodgers had been stabbed but claimed she didn’t know who did it.

After finding a bloody knife with Wilcox’s DNA on the handle and Rodgers’ blood on the blade in their apartment, investigators were able to link her to the crime, leading to her re-arrest and murder charges.

Wilcox is currently held without bail and is awaiting trial, with her next court appearance scheduled for Dec. 24.
