A shocking video has been released showing two UK prisoners smiling before brutally beating a convicted sex offender to death in his cell. The incident took place at His Majesty’s Prison Fosse Way in Leicestershire, where 19-year-old Ashirie Smith and 21-year-old Thierry Robinson were captured on camera creeping down a hallway towards Mahir Abdulrahman’s cell.
Just 37 seconds later, a warden found Abdulrahman beaten unconscious inside his cell. The inmate, who was serving a 35-week sentence for sex offenses, was pronounced dead within the hour due to bleeding to the brain.
During the trial, it was revealed that Abdulrahman had requested to be moved to a new cell shortly before the attack. Another inmate testified that the accused had been “terrorizing him for days” leading up to the fatal beating.
Smith, who was already serving time for a weapons charge, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 17 ½ years to be served. Robinson, on the other hand, was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter and received an 11-year prison sentence.
A third defendant, Shaan Karim, 38, was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter in connection to the incident.
Prison director Wyn Jones expressed his condolences, stating, “Any death in prison is a tragedy, but the murder of Mr. Abdulrahman was a heinous act. My thoughts remain with his family and those affected by his untimely death.”
The newly released video footage sheds light on the brutal and senseless violence that occurred within the walls of the prison. It serves as a reminder of the dangers that both inmates and prison staff face on a daily basis.
