Alta: The Fashion-Tech Company Bringing “Clueless” Style to Life

Since its inception, Jenny Wang’s company, Alta, has seen significant growth and success in the fashion-tech industry. Last year, Alta secured $11 million in funding from investors like Menlo Ventures to develop a platform where users can create digital closets and virtually try on clothes using personalized avatars, reminiscent of the technology seen in the movie “Clueless.”

Notable figures such as models Jasmine Tookes and Karlie Kloss, as well as Jenny Fleiss of Rent the Runway, joined the investment round, highlighting the industry’s interest in Alta’s innovative approach. The company’s app has garnered praise from publications like Time and Vogue, with over 100 million outfits created on the platform since its launch in 2023. Additionally, Alta has formed partnerships with Poshmark and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, with more collaborations on the horizon.

One of Alta’s recent milestones includes a collaboration with renowned New York City brand Public School, marking the brand’s return to the fashion scene. This partnership allows shoppers to style looks from Public School’s collection on their Alta avatars, offering a unique virtual try-on experience.

Public School’s founders, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, emphasized the importance of integrating tech and AI into their brand to enhance customer interactions and storytelling. Wang highlighted this collaboration as a significant step towards embedding avatar and styling technology into designers’ websites, offering consumers a more immersive shopping experience.

Looking ahead, Alta aims to expand its integration with other brands and websites, enabling users to try on clothes seamlessly across various platforms. Wang envisions Alta as a pivotal player in the future of consumer AI and shopping, serving as a personalized identity layer that understands shoppers’ preferences and style choices.

By combining the nostalgia of “Clueless” fashion technology with cutting-edge AI innovations, Alta is shaping the future of digital shopping experiences.
