Transcript provided by Real Clear Politics:

HARRY ENTEN, CNN CHIEF DATA ANALYST: Sometimes, a broader perspective can be quite revealing. From the viewpoint of the American electorate, one could argue that Trump is akin to “steady Eddie.”

But what does that mean? Let’s look closely. In October 2024, 44 percent of the American populace viewed Trump favorably. Now, over a year later, that number stands at 43 percent—essentially unchanged within the margin of error. This consistency is crucial since it mirrors the approval ratings that helped secure his reelection back in 2024. This pattern might astonish many, especially those on the left who have been persistently critical of Trump’s policies.

BOLDUAN: What underlying factors do you think contribute to that stability? Why has he maintained a similar rating?

ENTEN: Let’s borrow a phrase from the late NFL coach Dennis Green: Donald Trump is exactly who voters believed him to be. What do we mean by that? It boils down to expectations. Evidence suggests that 52 percent of Americans feel Trump is fulfilling the commitments he made during the 2024 campaign, while only 48 percent disagree. Thus, voters anticipated this behavior from him, and as a result, his favorable rating has not fluctuated significantly from where it was last year. Essentially, Trump is living up to the expectations set before him, reflecting his position as having the steadiest approval ratings at this point in any presidential term on historical record—sufficient to win reelection.

For emphasis, the sentiment is simple: Trump is as voters envisioned. A majority (52%) state he has been effective in following through on his promises. His approval ratings are essentially the same as they were prior to winning reelection last year. Not much has shifted on the generic ballot either. pic.twitter.com/cbTITmmMzS

Despite numerous attempts to undermine him, Trump’s support remains remarkably resilient.
