According to CNN data analyst Harry Enten, recent polls indicate that a significant portion of the American populace resonates with former President Trump regarding the state of higher education. This signals a troubling trend.
The narrative from the left often suggests that Trump merely woke up one day and decided to wage a crusade against prestigious institutions like Harvard. However, this oversimplification misses the mark entirely. Over the years, U.S. colleges and universities have gradually morphed into centers of ideological indoctrination, where a critical view of the nation and its allies, notably Israel, is not just permitted but often encouraged.
Trump’s aim, albeit controversial, is to restore some degree of rational discourse and equilibrium within academia—an effort that has been overdue for years. Remarkably, he is the first sitting president to tackle these concerns head-on.
It appears that a majority of Americans concur that this situation demands rectification.

Harry Enten highlighted a staggering decline in public confidence in higher education, noting that “most Americans” align with President Trump in recognizing a significant issue. During a discussion with Kate Bolduan, he detailed new polling data revealing that the percentage of Americans expressing strong faith in higher education has plummeted from 57% in 2015 to just 36% last year—a decline shared across political lines.
“This figure has indeed fallen, from 57% to a mere 36%. Notably, we see a 36-point drop among Republicans,” he stated. “Moreover, 68% of Americans believe that higher education is headed in the wrong direction.”
Enten emphasized that while opinions may differ regarding Trump’s methods, there is a broad consensus on the existence of problems within the higher education system.

A considerable number of Americans agree with Trump: higher education requires a significant overhaul. Confidence levels have nosedived from 57% in 2015 to just 36% today, with a staggering 68% asserting that it is on the wrong path.

Left-leaning commentators often attempt to frame these concerns as a matter of free speech. However, this characterization is misleading. Invite a controversial figure such as Ann Coulter to speak at Harvard, and watch the purported commitment to free speech evaporate in an instant.
