In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Conan O’Brien opened up about the emotional impact of losing a close friend suddenly.
Reflecting on the experience, O’Brien shared, “The experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they’re gone left me in shock for quite a while afterward. It’s just very — it’s so awful.” He also expressed his sorrow over the loss of a couple whom he and his wife had grown close to, describing them as “such lovely people.”
During the interview, O’Brien focused on the impact that Rob Reiner, not Nick, had on his life, highlighting Reiner’s activism and outspoken nature. “I think about how Rob felt about things that are happening in the country, how involved he was, how much he put himself out there — and to have that voice go quiet in an instant is still hard for me to comprehend,” O’Brien shared.
Looking ahead, O’Brien may have the opportunity to honor his friend as he is set to host the upcoming Academy Awards on March 15 on ABC.
