The incident occurred when the driver struck the victim, Maximiliano Lemus Panto, in the crosswalk while turning south on Komensky Avenue from 26th Street around 2:41 p.m. Surveillance images released by CPD captured the moment of impact, highlighting the urgency of identifying the driver involved.
According to a CPD traffic crash report, a witness estimated that the driver was traveling at approximately 30 mph when they hit Lemus, causing him to be thrown up and over the car’s hood. Lemus was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was treated for injuries that included a broken pelvis and a possible brain bleed. Tragically, despite medical efforts, Lemus succumbed to his injuries.
The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run is described as a white 2011 to 2014 Hyundai Sonata.
