Deepwatch Layoffs Highlight Emphasis on AI in Cybersecurity

Deepwatch, a cybersecurity firm known for its AI-powered detection and response platform, recently made headlines after laying off a significant number of employees. The company cited a shift towards AI as one of the primary reasons for the workforce reduction.

CEO John DiLullo explained in an email to JS that the layoffs were part of an effort to realign the organization and accelerate investments in AI and automation.

According to a current Deepwatch employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, between 60 and 80 employees were affected by the layoffs out of a total workforce of approximately 250. A post on LinkedIn by a former employee also mentioned that around 80 people were let go.

Despite the company’s focus on AI and automation, some employees expressed skepticism. One employee described the AI initiatives as questionable.

LinkedIn posts from eight former Deepwatch employees confirmed their layoffs, shedding light on the impact of the workforce reduction.

Deepwatch is not alone in its layoffs within the cybersecurity industry this year. In May, Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity giant, let go of approximately 500 employees, despite a strong financial performance.

Other cybersecurity companies that have downsized their workforce in 2026 include Deep Instinct, Otorio, ActiveFence, SkyBox Security, and Sophos.
