DC Studios and HBO Max have announced their collaboration on a new fictional true crime series set in the DC Universe. The show, titled “DC Crime,” will take on the format of a true crime docuseries and will be hosted by Jimmy Olsen, portrayed by Skyler Gisondo. The first season of the series will focus on the infamous DC villain Gorilla Grodd, known for his epic battles with The Flash.

The creative team behind “DC Crime” includes Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, who will serve as writers, executive producers, and showrunners. James Gunn and Peter Safran from DC Studios will also be executive producers, with Galen Vaisman overseeing production at Warner Bros. Television.

Yacenda and Perrault are well-known for their work in the mockumentary genre, having created the acclaimed Netflix series “American Vandal,” which parodied true crime documentaries. The duo also worked on the Paramount+ series “Players,” set in the world of eSports. Yacenda has previously worked on shows like “Chad Powers” at Hulu, while Perrault appeared in the Shondaland-Netflix series “The Residence.”

Gorilla Grodd is a fascinating character in the DC Universe, being a member of a highly-intelligent society of gorillas that gained psychic powers and other abilities from an alien spaceship. First introduced in 1959 in DC Comics, Grodd has made appearances in various DC animated series and films, as well as in The CW’s “Arrow-verse” shows.

In addition to “DC Crime,” Gunn and Safran are working on expanding the DC film and TV universe. HBO will soon air the drama series “Lanterns,” featuring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The premiere date for “Lanterns” is yet to be announced, but it is expected to debut in early 2026. There are also reports of a “V for Vendetta” TV series in development.
