For over a century, Congress has worked to shield the Federal Reserve from political meddling to ensure that monetary policy focuses on achieving maximum employment and stable prices, rather than short-term boosts to help presidents secure electoral victories.
When presidents exert pressure on central banks to adjust interest rates for political gain—like attempting to mask the fallout from disastrous tariffs and economic policies—the consequences are often dire: inflation, instability, rising unemployment, stagnant growth, and a significant decline in public trust in financial institutions.
