“Dexter: Resurrection” is set to continue its thrilling saga.
The much-anticipated sequel series, featuring Michael C. Hall back in his iconic role as the infamous serial killer, has officially been greenlit for a second season by Paramount+.
Hall expressed gratitude to fans in a video shared on YouTube, stating, “There’s more in store for you. The writers’ room is currently in the works and more information will follow … the journey goes on.”
This renewal follows a report by Variety in August indicating that Paramount+ had plans to convene a writers’ room for a potential Season 2. In a contrasting turn of events, the other “Dexter” spinoff, “Original Sin,” which features Patrick Gibson as a younger Dexter, faced cancellation. Despite being renewed for a second season in April, the streaming platform later canceled the show a few months afterward, post the Paramount and Skydance merger.
“Dexter: Resurrection” debuted in July, attracting 4.4 million viewers across multiple platforms within its initial week. Alongside Hall, the cast includes Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, David Zayas, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, James Remar, and Peter Dinklage. This season also featured guest appearances by notable actors like Eric Stonestreet, David Magidoff, Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, David Dastmalchian, and John Lithgow, who reprised his role as Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer.
After a successful eight-season stint on Showtime, the original “Dexter” series concluded in 2013 and revived in 2021 through the miniseries “Dexter: New Blood.” The subsequent “Dexter: Original Sin” allowed Hall to return to the character of Dexter in a voice role, before he suited up again for the recent sequel, “Resurrection.” Furthermore, a prequel series centered around the Trinity Killer is currently under development, announced last year.
“Resurrection” is helmed by Clyde Phillips, who was the original showrunner for “Dexter,” alongside his production team at Clyde Phillips Productions, Counterpart Studios, and Showtime Studios. The executive producers for the project include Phillips, Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Hilly Hicks, Jr., John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Hall.
