‘Disgusting’: State Capital to Fly Palestinian Flag Over City Hall |

In a move that has sparked considerable controversy, Providence, Rhode Island, is set to raise a Palestinian flag above City Hall this Friday. This decision has drawn sharp criticism for allegedly undermining American values and Christian principles.

More than just a foreign banner, the Palestinian flag has been associated with Hamas, a group recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government since 1997, notorious for its violent actions that have resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including those of Americans and Israelis, during its brutal campaign of jihad.

The announcement was made by the Providence City Council on X, with the flag-raising scheduled for noon, accompanied by remarks from elected officials and local community members on the steps of City Hall.

What should be prominently displayed are the Stars and Stripes and the Rhode Island state flag—symbols of national unity, freedom, and faith—rather than a flag linked to violence and division.

One user on X summarized the sentiments of many: “This is really disgusting. I’m sure it also violates some statute. The only time another flag should be put up there is if you’re conquered.”

Raising a foreign flag, especially one associated with a terrorist organization, is a contentious move for any government building. Another user articulated the frustration perfectly: “So you’re having a flag-raising event, but not with an American flag. Not with a Rhode Island flag. It’s with a Palestinian flag. The same flag that Hamas waves.”

The user continued, “If only you guys cared about America, Americans, and especially your constituents as much as you care about some non-existent country alleged to be thousands of miles away which a designated terrorist organization is fighting for.”

In a rather feeble attempt to distance himself from the decision, Mayor Brett Smiley told WJAR-TV, “If it was up to me, I wouldn’t have flown this flag. It came in from a constituent via the city council and I had no grounds to deny it.”

This response has been labeled as a cowardly avoidance of accountability.

The city has doubled down on this stance, asserting to WLNE-TV that the flag-raising event is akin to any other multicultural celebration. Meanwhile, the Providence Young Republicans have “strongly condemned” the decision, calling it “inappropriate and deeply disappointing,” a sentiment that might be considered an understatement.

Let’s be clear: this action is not merely about “raising awareness” for Gaza, as some proponents might claim. It is, rather, a gesture perceived by many as capitulation to radical leftist ideologies that appear to prioritize anti-American sentiments over the safety and cohesion of the nation.

Hamas has a well-documented history of violence against both Israelis and Americans, particularly highlighted by the tragic events of October 7, 2023. Thus, for the city of Providence to elevate their flag feels like a betrayal to every American who values their heritage.

Consider the hypothetical scenario where a resident in Providence has lost a loved one to Hamas. The emotional weight of this decision becomes even more pronounced.

The City Council’s initiative to display a Palestinian flag in City Hall chambers indicates a longstanding flirtation with an anti-American agenda, and they are now fully embracing it.

This move fundamentally undermines the principles of liberty and justice that are foundational to our nation, principles rooted in faith and a commitment to oppose evil.

True conservatives and Christians should rightfully be outraged—Providence appears to be signaling its preference for terrorist sympathizers over the citizens of Rhode Island.

It is essential for patriots to voice their dissent, demand that the flag not be flown, and hold Mayor Smiley and the City Council accountable for this troubling action.

If they intend to raise a flag, let it at least be one that represents American values.

Providence ought to reflect on its choices—its leadership seems to have opted to honor chaos over country, and they will ultimately answer to their constituents and a higher moral authority for this regrettable decision.
