On Sunday, GOP Senator Lindsey Graham did not hold back in his criticism of NBC’s Kristen Welker after she voiced her objections about the prosecution of New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Last Thursday, Letitia James was indicted by a federal grand jury in Virginia. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged her with two significant offenses: Bank Fraud under 18 U.S.C. Section 1344, and Making False Statements to a Financial Institution under 18 U.S.C. Section 1014.
The charges stem from a mortgage on a property in Norfolk, Virginia, humorously dubbed “the Perrone Property” since James initially claimed it was merely her secondary residence. However, the indictment reveals a rather different story.
In her financial disclosures, James categorized this property as an investment, generating rental income even while asserting it was intended solely as a personal retreat. This contradiction raises eyebrows and suggests a deliberate misrepresentation of her financial status.
The allegations against her are compelling, and reports indicate that an additional indictment may be on the horizon. Nonetheless, during her Sunday segment on “Meet the Press,” Welker defended James vigorously.
It’s worth recalling that Letitia James had previously made headlines for promising to sue former President Trump without even a cursory glance at the evidence. The audacity of stating, “We’re definitely gonna sue him; we’re gonna be a real pain in the ass” highlights her commitment to pursuing a political agenda.

James’s lawsuit against Trump sought to impose a judgment exceeding $400 million and aimed at seizing his assets—all without identifying any actual victims. This backdrop made Graham’s criticisms all the more pointed during his exchange with Welker.
In a biting retort, Graham highlighted the inconsistency in media objections to the prosecution processes against James and others while pointing out the glaring hypocrisy concerning the issuance of politically motivated charges against Trump. “You didn’t care that Letitia James made up charges that no one’s ever faced!” he exclaimed. “This may bother you that people are being held accountable—It doesn’t bother me one damn bit,” he added, clearly incensed at the double standards he perceives.
