The Edmonton Oilers shook up the hockey world with a bold move on Friday morning, trading away Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In return, they acquired goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Sam Poulin. Additionally, the Oilers also added defenseman Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2027 third-round draft pick.

General Manager Stan Bowman explained the reasoning behind the trade, stating that it was time for a change in goal for the two-time Stanley Cup finalists. Jarry, a seasoned goaltender, will now take over the No. 1 spot in Edmonton’s net.

As the Oilers prepare to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs, let’s take a look at some key stats and head-to-head matchups between the two teams:

– Edmonton has struggled against the Maple Leafs in recent regular-season games, with a 2-5-1 record since the 2020-21 season.
– The Oilers rank 26th in goals against per game with an average of 3.39, while the Maple Leafs are 19th with 3.17.
– Edmonton boasts the 2nd best power play percentage in the NHL at 32.1%, while the Maple Leafs sit at the bottom with 14.5%.
– In terms of penalty kill percentage, Edmonton ranks 17th with 80.2%, while Toronto ranks 11th with 82.1%.

Tristan Jarry and Spencer Stastney have already joined the Oilers in Toronto for the upcoming game against the Maple Leafs. On the Maple Leafs side, goalie Joseph Woll is unlikely to play due to injury, but defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson appears to have avoided a serious injury after being helped off the ice in their last game.

Here is the projected lineup for the Oilers against the Maple Leafs:

Forwards:
– Nugent-Hopkins – McDavid – Hyman
– Podkolzin – Draisaitl – Savoie
– Frederic – Henrique – Janmark
– Mangiapane – Lazar – Tomasek

Defencemen:
– Ekholm – Bouchard
– Nurse – Regula
– Stillman – Emberson

Goalies:
– Jarry
– Pickard

In terms of betting odds, the Oilers are favored at -118, while the Maple Leafs have -102 odds to win. The puck line is set at +1.5 for the Maple Leafs at -252, meaning they can win outright or lose by just one goal to cover the spread. The over/under is set at 6.5 goals, with a predicted score of Oilers 4, Maple Leafs 3.

For betting tips, consider taking the under on 6.5 goals, betting on Edmonton to win, and taking the Maple Leafs to cover the +1.5 spread.

Overall, the trade and lineup changes set the stage for an exciting matchup between the Oilers and Maple Leafs. Stay tuned for what promises to be a thrilling game on the ice.
