Could Graham Platner’s rise in popularity have been influenced by his competition with Susan Collins?

During her candidacy, Gov. Janet Mills maintained an even race with Collins. Once Graham Platner was nominated as the party’s candidate for the Senate, he either matched or slightly led Collins within the margin of error.

As Platner plans to withdraw from the race on Monday, a number of Maine Democrats are preparing to vie for the nomination.

The Maine Democratic Party intends to select a new Senate nominee through a convention, which will involve hundreds of delegates. This process is reminiscent of previous decades, but the behind-the-scenes negotiations typical of the past must not be repeated.

The convention for choosing a new Senate candidate in Maine should prioritize openness, transparency, and be broadcasted to the public.

It is evident that numerous candidates are poised to offer Susan Collins a challenging contest.
