A 4-year-old boy from Florida, who went missing with his dog on New Year’s Eve while visiting his father in Alabama, was tragically found dead. The remains of Johnathan Boley were discovered in a wooded area two miles from home, with his loyal black Labrador mix Buck found alive by his side after a three-day search, as reported by WBRC.
Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith announced the heartbreaking news to reporters, expressing the community’s devastation over the loss of Johnathan, described as an adventurous boy who loved the outdoors.
Johnathan, known as “John John” to his family, lived in Florida with his mother and was on a holiday visit to his father in Jasper, Alabama, at the time of his disappearance.
He was last seen playing outside with his brother and dog at his father’s home before going missing. The community and authorities launched a search operation to find the young boy, who was believed to be in danger.
Despite the challenges posed by poor weather and difficult terrain, hundreds of volunteers joined the search efforts, demonstrating a tremendous outpouring of support for finding Johnathan.
Authorities also encountered another hurdle during the search when explosive materials were discovered at the father’s residence, leading to the arrest of Jameson Kyle Boley on unrelated charges.
The father’s charges were not related to the boy’s disappearance, but the presence of explosive devices hindered the search operation, requiring specialized handling before proceeding further.
Smith expressed gratitude towards the volunteers and investigative teams for their dedication in trying to locate Johnathan amidst the difficult circumstances.
