In a recent press conference, Florida’s First Lady Casey DeSantis announced that the state will commit $60 million towards advancing the research of generic drugs in relation to cancer treatment. This initiative, presented at the University of South Florida alongside State Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, aims to tackle an often overlooked aspect of medical science.

In her remarks, she highlighted that some of these funds would specifically support research into ivermectin, a drug that has attracted various opinions regarding its efficacy in cancer treatment. DeSantis pointedly stated, “Generic medicines are frequently dismissed because they are off-patent and do not offer the profit margins pharmaceuticals crave.”

She elaborated, “Florida is taking a proactive stance to investigate these medications, with the hope of discovering new, viable methods to combat cancer.”

According to AOL, on World Cancer Research Day, both Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis unveiled the new funding initiative via the Florida Cancer Innovation Fund aimed at fostering innovation in cancer research. This latest $60 million allocation brings the total fund investment to $140 million since its inception, indicating a commitment to high-impact research, particularly focusing on nutritional practices in the realms of cancer prevention and treatment.

The Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program has established this fund to expedite breakthrough research, enhance treatment methods, and obliterate barriers associated with medical advancements.

This new financial opportunity will prioritize projects exploring nutritional interventions and the repurposing of generic drugs for cancer treatments, such as ivermectin.

During her address, Casey DeSantis cited actor Mel Gibson’s comments on the Joe Rogan podcast regarding close friends who overcame stage 4 cancer through ivermectin. Undoubtedly, the anecdotal evidence shared in such forums often garners wide attention, regardless of its scientific foundation.
