Authorities have clarified that the loud noise that frightened spring breakers at Daytona Beach over the weekend, leading to a chaotic rush, was not due to gunfire. On Monday, the sheriff revealed the actual, non-threatening source of the noise: people crushing water bottles.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood confirmed on Monday that no gunshots were fired on the beach. His statement came after a video of hundreds of panicked beachgoers went viral. Chitwood also mentioned that there were 50 deputies present in the crowd at that time.

During the weekend, 80 individuals were arrested at Daytona Beach, and six weapons were confiscated. None of these incidents occurred directly on the beach, as Chitwood pointed out, emphasizing that “everyone can carry a gun in Florida.”

Additionally, there have been four shooting incidents reported in the city since Friday, but none were linked to the beach chaos.
