Former NYC Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik Passes Away at 69
Bernie Kerik, the former Police Commissioner of New York City, has died at the age of 69, as confirmed on Thursday.
Earlier this month, he had been hospitalized in a cardiac unit, marking the beginning of a private struggle with illness.
FBI Director Kash Patel took to X to announce the sad news of Kerik’s passing.
Today, we mourn the loss of Bernard B. Kerik, a true warrior, a patriot, and one of the most courageous public servants in our nation’s history. Tragically, Bernie passed away on May 29, 2025, after a private battle with illness.
With over 40 years dedicated to law enforcement and national security, he devoted his life to the protection of the American people. As the 40th Police Commissioner of New York City, Bernie led with unwavering strength in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, guiding the NYPD through one of the darkest periods in our nation’s history.
His remarkable career was marked by over 100 decorations for bravery and valor. He not only rescued victims from burning buildings and survived assassination attempts but also brought some of the world’s most dangerous criminals to justice. His legacy goes beyond medals and titles; it is etched in the lives he saved, the city he helped rebuild, and the country he served with honor.
Rest easy, Commissioner. Your watch has ended, but your impact will undoubtedly endure.

This was the last tweet from Bernie’s X account before his passing, focusing on election integrity.
Today I created the Election Integrity Task Force together with the FBI and DHS to safeguard our voter rolls, remove ineligible voters, and prosecute election crimes. https://t.co/9TwPsYjvAx

Here’s a photo I took with Bernie alongside his longtime friend, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, back in 2021.
Bernard remained a patriot until his last breath, exemplifying what it means to love one’s country. His admiration for President Trump and his dedication to America were evident throughout his life. He will be profoundly missed.
Known for his outspoken nature, Bernie was often on point with his assessments. He made headlines in August 2022 when he commented:
