Sean Duffy, a former Fox Business host and U.S. Representative from Wisconsin, has been chosen by Donald Trump to be his nominee for secretary of transportation in Washington D.C. This appointment comes as Pete Buttigieg, who currently leads the department under President Biden, is set to be replaced.
Duffy’s selection represents a trend of Trump turning to personalities from Fox News for key positions in his administration. Prior to this announcement, Trump had already named Pete Hegseth, co-host of “Fox & Friends Weekend,” as his pick for secretary of defense. Unlike Hegseth, Duffy brings with him valuable legislative experience, having served in Congress from 2011 to 2019. He stepped down from his position in 2019 to focus on his family after his daughter was diagnosed with a serious heart condition.
Before entering politics, Duffy served as the District Attorney of Ashland County in Wisconsin in 2002. He first gained national attention as a cast member on MTV’s reality show “The Real World: Boston” in his late twenties. Duffy also appeared on the first season of “The Challenge,” then known as “Road Rules: All Stars,” where he met his wife Rachel Campos. In 2022, Duffy joined Fox Business as a co-host of “The Bottom Line” alongside Dagen McDowell.
In a statement, Trump expressed confidence in Duffy’s ability to prioritize excellence, competence, competitiveness, and beauty in rebuilding America’s infrastructure. He highlighted Duffy’s commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of highways, tunnels, bridges, airports, ports, and dams, as well as his focus on eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for pilots and air traffic controllers to enhance aviation safety.
This appointment signifies a new chapter for Sean Duffy as he transitions from the world of media to public service in Washington D.C. His background in law enforcement, politics, and television make him a unique and intriguing choice for the role of secretary of transportation. As he prepares to take on this new challenge, all eyes will be on Duffy to see how he navigates the complex and vital responsibilities of overseeing America’s transportation infrastructure.
