Operations at German brewer Eichbaum are set to continue, as the group has successfully secured capital from an undisclosed investor. In a recent press release, the Mannheim-based business announced that a “continuation plan” has been approved by its creditors, marking the end of a challenging period for all involved.

As part of the approved plan, Eichbaum revealed that an investor will acquire the company brand, brewery site, and production facilities in an asset deal. The brewery had filed for “self-administration” in October, and in December, management consultancy Roland Berger was commissioned to assess external interest in the business.

While specific details regarding the investor have not been disclosed, regional news outlet Die Rheinpfalz has suggested that Park & Bellheimer brewery based in Pirmasens may be involved. Additionally, Südwestrundfunk reported that two investors will be assisting in the continuation of operations at Eichbaum.

Managing directors Uwe Aichele and Frank Reifel expressed their optimism for the future, stating, “We can now look to the future again. Our focus is on regaining economic strength, modernizing our long-established company with its more than 340-year history, and ensuring a stable future for the brand and the business.”

Following approval from creditors, Eichbaum will begin implementing its continuation plan, which includes structural adjustments, operational realignments, and the consolidation of production and sales processes. The company also announced a reduction in its workforce, with the goal of ensuring long-term competitiveness.

Hakan Ulucay, regional chairman of the local trade union NGG, confirmed that a third of jobs at the brewery will be retained, approximately 100 roles. He emphasized the importance of securing the future of the remaining employees and creating a viable plan for Eichbaum in Mannheim.

Stephanie Albicker, union secretary in the NGG region of Mannheim-Heidelberg, expressed concern over the planned job cuts, calling them a severe blow to the workforce. She emphasized the need for a socially responsible implementation of the reductions to minimize the impact on individuals, families, and livelihoods.

The restructuring at Eichbaum signifies a new chapter for the historic brewery, as it seeks to navigate through financial challenges and secure a sustainable future for its brand and business.
