Protect Yourself from Google Calendar Phishing Scams

Cybercriminals have found a loophole in Google Calendar that allows them to bypass spam filters and launch phishing attacks on unsuspecting users. This alarming trend was highlighted in a recent report by Check Point, a leading cyber threat intelligence company, which identified over 4,000 phishing emails sent within a month targeting various organizations.

By exploiting Google Calendar’s legitimate invitation system, attackers are able to send malicious links disguised as genuine invitations. This tactic makes it challenging for users to differentiate between legitimate and fraudulent invites, putting them at risk of exposing sensitive information like passwords and financial details.

To safeguard yourself from such attacks, it is crucial to be proactive and follow these 10 tips to avoid falling victim to phishing scams. One of the key tips is to exercise caution when receiving unfamiliar calendar invites, especially those containing suspicious links.

Always verify email addresses and website URLs for any subtle variations that may indicate a phishing attempt. For instance, double-check for misspellings like “@google.com” versus “@gooogle.com” before clicking on any links. When in doubt, it is advisable to access websites directly through trusted search engines or by typing the URL manually.

As phishing scams continue to evolve in complexity, it is essential to remain vigilant and refrain from interacting with unsolicited invitations. By staying alert and cautious, you can protect your personal information from falling into the hands of cybercriminals.

Furthermore, it is recommended to use reputable antivirus software when downloading any content from the internet to prevent malware infections. However, users should also be wary of fake antivirus scams that may pose as legitimate security tools.
