Google has just released its December Pixel Drop feature update, and it’s packed with 20 new features for Pixel phones and tablets. This update is one of the most significant of the year, with improvements that enhance the overall user experience. Let’s dive into all the new features that are included in this update.

Gemini:

– Saved info: Gemini can now remember interests and preferences, such as dietary requirements, to provide more relevant responses like recipes.
– Better app support: Gemini now supports making calls, sending messages, setting alarms, controlling settings, and opening the camera app. Spotify, Google Maps, and smart home controls will be added in the coming weeks.
– Better Call Screen responses (Pixel 9 phones only): Gemini Nano’s one-tap suggestions during call screening will be more contextual.
– Live Call Screen transcripts: Users can now see the conversation between the caller and AI agent in real-time and answer or decline calls at any time.

Cameras:

– Ultra HDR in Instagram (Pixel 9 phones only): Users can now take and post Ultra HDR photos directly from the Instagram app.
– Snapchat Google Photos integration: Snapchat’s Photo Picker now includes all folders, favorites, and cloud photos from Google Photos.
– Dual Screen (Pixel Fold and 9 Pro Fold only): When taking a photo in the camera app, the subject can see a preview on the cover screen.
– Made You Look updates (Pixel Fold and 9 Pro Fold only): Animations on the cover screen to capture children’s attention for photos are now available on older foldable devices, with characters like Joy from Inside Out films included.

Keyboard:

– Pixel Studio stickers in Gboard: AI-generated stickers made in the Pixel Studio app can now be sent directly from the keyboard.
– Emoji Kitchen in Gboard: Users can create and send emoji mash-ups directly from the keyboard.

Pixel Screenshots:

– Add Circle to Search products (Pixel 9 phones only): Users can save identified products into a dedicated folder for later.
– Automatic categorization (Pixel 9 phones only): Screenshots are now assigned a category as soon as they’re saved, making information easier to find.
– Tickets or cards added to Google Wallet (Pixel 9 phones only): Screenshotted boarding passes, driving licenses, credit cards, and more can now be added to Google Wallet.
– Gboard suggestions (Pixel 9 phones only): Users will receive suggestions of movies, music, products, or other text from screenshots while searching in relevant apps.

General:

– Clear voice in Recorder (Pixel 9 phones only): This feature focuses on speakers while reducing background noise for clearer recordings.
– Simple View (Pixel 6 and newer): Increases font size and touch sensitivity for easier device use.
– Now Playing artwork: Song identification now displays album art alongside song information in Now Playing history.
– Faster Pixel Tablet controls (Pixel Tablet only): Quick access to smart home, timer, music, and other controls by swiping right from the lock screen.
– Identity Check (beta): Requires face or fingerprint authentication to change sensitive settings.
– Google VPN on Pixel Tablet: Now available on Pixel tablets, previously exclusive to Pixel phones.

If you own a Pixel device, check if it’s on the list of supported devices for the December Pixel Drop. The update has started rolling out, but it may take some time to reach all devices. Make sure your device is running the latest software version to enjoy these new features.
